I installed ANT+ HRM to my watch but I don't see it anywhere
See: How can I add ANT+ HRM to my Run data screen?
How can I add ANT+ HRM to my Run data screen?
- Make sure the HRM is NOT paired with the watch (in the watch go to Menu (long press on left middle button) > Sensors & Accessories > if the HRM is in the list then set the status to Off)
- Add ANT+ HRM datafield to the activity you want to use
click Start button > choose activity (i.e: Run) > Options (Up button) > Run (or whatever activity you're in) settings > Data Screens > Edit (pencil icon / Start button) > Layout > choose your preferered layout (Up / Down) > Start > Data Fields > choose the place where you'd like to add ANT+ HRM (Up / Down) > Start > select "ConnectIQ Fields" category (Up / Down) > Start > select ANT+ HRM (Up / Down) > Start
Now you have ANT+ HRM added to your screen. Click Back 4 times and you can configure the datafield using Garmin Connect mobile app or Garmin Express program
- When you wear the HRM it'll automatically connect and you'll see that in the datafield. You can also connect while setting up the datafield layout. At the same time you'll be able to use the Connect IQ app on the phone to enter the settings of the ANT+ HRM datafield and customize it.
- When you start the activity you'll see the HR measured on the HRM.
- When you stop and save the activity it'll upload the data to Connect IQ and you'll be able to analyze it either on the phone or on the website.
I only see the heart rate from the HRM. Where is the zone and the colorful gauge?
- In Connect IQ app open the settings: My Device > My Data Fields > ANT+ HRM > Settings
- Make sure that your ANT ID and Name is set in one of the Users (See: How do I know my HRM's ANT ID?)
-
In your user's setting edit Zones. You have 3 different ways to tell ANT+ HRM what are your heart rate zones.
-
"u" - this will use the zones from your watch's user settings. You can set them in Garmin Connect app.
-
"m:175" - this will set the max HR to 175 and the zones will be set up automatically (Z1:50%-60%, Z2:60%-70%, Z3:70%-80%, Z4:80%-90%, Z5:90%-100%) This is the easiest to set when another person (or horse :) is wearing the HRM
-
"z:105,113,131,145,158,168" - this will set the zones the same way you would manually set them up in Garmin Connect. Note: you need 6 numbers! minZ1,maxZ1,maxZ2,maxZ3,maxZ4,maxZ5
How can I set the heart rate zones?
If you're the one who's using the HRM, then keep the default setting: Zones: "u" (without the quotes)
and set your heart rate zones in Garmin Connect
If it's someone else who's using the HRM then you can set the zones like this: Zones:
- "z:minZ1,maxZ1,maxZ2,maxZ3,maxZ4,maxZ5", for example: "z:100,115,125,140,150,165"
The best way is to use Connect IQ app on your phone, this way you'll be able to see the changes immediately on your watch:
- In Connect IQ app open the settings: My Device > My Data Fields > ANT+ HRM > Settings
- Set up your preferences
- Click Save button
- A few seconds later you'll see how it looks on the watch
How do I know my HRM's ANT ID?
Keep "Only connect to ANT ID" setting on the default "0"
- The easiest way is to use "Set name for currently connected ANT HRM" in the settings and let it detect the ANT ID automatically:
- Give it a name (i.e: "me", "Joe", or "H10")
- Save the settings
3.1. If your HRM is already connected then you'll see it changes the label of the datafield.
3.2. If you aren't connected then the next time you connect (wear the HRM and open the activity screen that has ANT+ HRM added to it) will save it.
- Now you can see the saved ANT ID in the settings under one of the Users
- You can also see the ANT ID displayed in the data field for 5 seconds every time it connects.
- After you set up your activity's data screens open the activity (no need to start yet)
- Put on your HRM strap. This will wake it up and it'll start to send data.
- ANT+ HRM datafield will display the ANT ID for 5 seconds after it connects.
- You can also connect the HRM to your watch and see the ANT ID in the description page. Don't forget to Disable it, otherwise ANT+ HRM won't see the sensor!
Now if you want to restrict ANT+ HRM set the ANT ID in "Only connect to ANT ID" and Save the settings.
The datafield accidentaly connected to a nearby friend's HRM. How csn I disconnect it?
If you know your own HRM's ANT ID:
1. Open the Settings
2. then you can set it in "Only connect to ANT ID" and Save
If you don't know your own HRM's ANT ID:
1. Open the Settings
2. Set "Only connect to ANT ID" to any number i.e: "1"
3. Save the settings
4. Open the Settings again
5. Set "Only connect to ANT ID" to "0", buit don't save yet!
6. Make sure you're fare enough from others ;)
7. Save
8. Now it should connect to your HRM.
9. To prevent the same to happen again it's recommended to set "Only connect to ANT ID" to your ANT ID
ANT+ HRM doesn't see my Polar H9/H10/...
- Make sure the HRM is set to connect via ANT (For example for Polar it should be enabled by default, but if it's disabled then it can be enabled in the Polar Flow or Polar Beat app)
- If you don't need Bluetooth then it's recommended to disable it.
- Make sure the HRM is NOT paired with the watch (in the watch go to Menu (long press on left middle button) > Sensors & Accessories > if the HRM is in the list then set the status to Off)
I have installed ANT+ HRM but it disappeared from the watch
If it was there before and disappeared it's probably a known Garmin bug. When that happens then you can try to reset the activity's data screen:
1. Start > choose activity > Up > "activity" settings > Restore defaults.
2. After that add the ANT+ HRM datafield again:
Start > choose activity > Up > "activity" settings > Data screens > Up > Layout > choose layout
3. then: DataFields > ConnectIQ Fields > ANT+ HRM
I synced my workout to Garmin Connect but I see that the min/average/max HR data is not from ANT+ HRM
That's the way it is intended to work. Everything that the watch does remains the same (either it uses the wrist HR sensor or even when you have a HR band CONNECTED to the watch in the watch menu), then every usual data related to HR is what the watch records.
To see the HR data related to what ANT+ HRM records go down in the 2nd tab in Garmin Connect app, you'll see all the data under the (last) Connect IQ section.
If you go to the last tab where you have the graphs, you'll have "ANT Heart Rate Zone" (if you set it up) and "ANT Heart Rate (bpm)" and there you can even overlay the "Heart Rate" with the "ANT Heart Rate" to compare them (in case you're comparing the watch optical HR sensor to an auxiliary HR sensor)
You can also see the same data and graphs on the Garmin Connect website.
How can I compare my meart rate on my watch and my external heart rate monitor?
- See: How can I add ANT+ HRM to my Run data screen?
- Record an activity
- After you finished make sure it's synced to Garmin (Garmin Connect mobile app or Garmin Express)
- You can see the data ANT+ HRM recorded either in Garmin Connect app or on the website.
- You can also see the recorded data when you export your activity's data to 3rd party (i.e: Runalyze, Intervals.icu)
I am getting Low Heart Rate Alert at the beginning of my workout, when I am not yet warmed up. How can I turn it off?
Go to the Settings and set "Delay Low HR Aert after activity starts (minutes)". If you want it not to alert for 10 minutes, then put there 10, and Save the settings.
